Ellen Pompeo Is Offended That Fans Think "Grey's Anatomy" Won't Be The Same Without Patrick Dempsey

"Why can’t I be on that poster by myself?"

Ellen Pompeo has hit back at Grey's Anatomy fans who think the show won't be the same without the dreamy Derek Shepherd, played by Patrick Dempsey.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Pompeo mentioned that she was offended by the suggestion that the show couldn't go on without McDreamy.

"Let’s keep it really real for a second and say this is really difficult for my ego," the star of the hit show said.

"It's like, Annalise Keating carries the show, Olivia Pope carries the show," she said, referring to hit shows How To Get Away With Murder and Scandal, also produced by Shonda Rhimes.

"But somehow, Meredith Grey needs someone. Why can’t I just be the lead of the show the way Annalise and Olivia can? Why can’t I be on that poster by myself?”

With Season 12 premiering on September 24, we're sure Meredith Grey will still have some absolutely kickass storylines.
