LANA DEL REY - A TOP TEN UNRELEASED TRACKS

My 10 fave non album unreleased Lana Del Rey tracks. So not from Sirens, Lizzy Grant AKA Lana Del Rey, Born to Die or Ultraviolence. From 2005/6 up to 2012 and covers many styles with some great and funny lyrics.

1. A Star for Nick

From the Sparkle Jump Queen era around 2005/6 this is Miss Grant still in May Jailer acoustic folk mode but the vocal is amazing and the lyrics are Nostradamus like "you know it, I know it, I'm gonna be a star"

2. Kinda Outta Luck

From 2010 - A track that had a great video that was on her youtube for a long time. Kicks off darkly with some great guitar but then turns into something akin to Mambo no 5. A great Gangsta Sinatra lyric "This is all wrong, but I think it's kinda fun when I hit you in the back of the head with a gun, my daddy's in trunk of his brand new truck, I kinda want him back but I'm flat outta luck." If she played it live I am sure it would go down a storm.

3. The Man I Love

Apparently put together by a fan from a demo for "Trash aka Miss America" plus a line from "Pin Up Galore" from around 2008/9. But to me it is one of her finest moments and a song that would be a standout on a Divine Comedy album. Oddly all the recorded/live versions of "Trash aka Miss America" don't have The Man I love lyrics so it is maybe just a case that two great tracks were made from one demo with The Man I love taking the best lines - "All that's real to me is halloween and Jesus, Coney Island beaches, chandeliers and seizures honey"

There are longer but slower versions all over ubend but I prefer this version on Grooveshark

4. Beautiful Player

From 2011 - A classic top pop tune in which she first steals the line from the Crystals "He hit me and it felt like I kiss." Her top line is the opening one "You're so easy to love you make me coo coo like a turtle dove"

5. Golden Grill or Live Forever

From 2009 - It would make a great Bond theme except that it make an odd Bond film title. Produced with Princess Superstar. It is probably not as well known as Kinda outta Luck but I would love to hear it live. "There's no more chances for you now. You never learn. You live on fire, baby, but I just got burned"

6. Us Against the World

From 2010 - More top pop with a great lyrics "What do you want to high for when your baby's so to die for"

7. Boarding School

From 2009 and obviously inspired by her own boarding school experience. There was a great cut and paste video that did not feature the singer but it is sadly not currently on Ubend.

"Educated in the language of doing it, so get down like your tutor taught you to…"

8. Ridin' with ASAP Rocky

From 2012 - ASAP Rocky is the chap who plays the President Kennedy character in the National Anthem video. Why this track did not appear on any album is a mystery as it is brilliant. "I am his pretty party favour, he says I'm his favourite flavour"

9. Dayglow Reflection

From 2012 - Another version of this did appear on the sadly late Bobby Womack's excellent album produced by Damon Albarn. Top line "Time reveals that love's, the only truth."

Apparently she approached Bobby about collaborating first and if this is what she brought to the table then Mr Albarn and Mr Womack did not add much to gain a co-writing credit. It is the highlight of the album and she has been quoted as saying "If there is a man in the room when you write he gets 50%".

10. Elvis

Another one from the Sparkle Jump Queen era and one of the tracks she uploaded to a site call Myspace back in 2008 and did the great cut n' paste video. "Elvis, where are you when I need you most? White comp sequin jumpsuit ghost."
