20 Ways Sleepaway Camp Prepared You For College

The two best times of your life... were basically the same thing.

1.

Bug Juice, it’s just like Jungle Juice… just without the alcohol and scary unknowns. And probably much better-tasting.

2.

Cleaning for inspection (hopefully) prepared you to clean your dorm room at least every couple of weeks.

3.

Living in a sorority house basically feels like living in a bunk. And if you went to camp, you will most likely live in a sorority house.

4.

If you can live with 12 girls in a bunk, you can live with one girl in a dorm room.

5.

Even if you get stuck with a quad… you never object to sleeping in a bunk bed.

6.

And decorating your dorm is just like decorating your bunk, minus the posters of N*Sync and One Direction.

7.

Writing letters 3 times a week is nothing compared to getting phone calls from your mother every day.

8.

Socials: the PG version of formals. Taught you how to awkwardly dance with boys and stealthily avoid your date.

9.

You’re already used to having a closet full of clothing that’s all the same color.

10.

And getting decked out for color war taught you how to dress for game days.

11.

Sharing clothes is the only way you know how to dress yourself.

Visiting day, or what is better known as, the one day you get to experience food from the “outside world.” Same goes for parents’ weekend.

And post-visiting-day binge = the Freshmen 15.

You are also a pro at stashing food in your room.

15.

If you can learn to love camp dining hall food, then dorm food will be manageable.

16.

Tough call choosing which is grosser, a boys' bunk or a fraternity house... either way, these are where the bromances happened.

You come to college already a first-class champion at Jewish geography, and love playing it.

Which was harder: going on a raid and avoiding the counselors on OD, or sneaking back from the boys’ floor and avoiding your RA?

19.

You cannot deny that you had a first day of camp outfit and a first day of college outfit… both clearly gone to waste after sweating and unpacking for hours.

20.

The people you live with become your second family, and you know that the friends you make are friends forever.
