Sally Field Honored By Human Rights Campaign
The HRC presented the actress with the Ally for Equality Award in Washington, D.C. Watch her awesome acceptance speech, in which she discusses her son’s coming out for the first time.
Sally discussed her son’s struggle with his own identity and how she wanted to step in. But she learned that her duty as a parent was to support him on his journey.
Sally also thanked those in the room and those who have supported her son as well as making it easier for her to be a parent of a gay child.

crazy kat 7 months agoI hate to be all little miss pissy pants and I may get super hate but I really do not like seeing straight people get awards for being Ally’s! Now I love Sally Field but you have to realize that people are LITERALLY giving straight people an award for something that shouldn’t be given an award for. Why shouldn’t they be given an award? Because it takes away from actually doing it to be a decent human being, it means you need something special to prove how awesome and progressive you are by accepting LGBTQ. The whole Ally week appreciation and celebration of Ally’s really just rubs me the wrong way because it seems like it’s putting the focus back on straight people instead of those who are being oppressed. Now I’m not talking directly towards Sally Fields, but I know others who HAVE gotten awards for being a straight ally and it just kind of pisses me off by the message they are sending. And for those who say that straight people aren’t like that I really do beg to differ! Can’t tell you how many damn times I’ve been introduced as a lesbian sister or lesbian/gay friend or have seen my gay guy friends be introduced the same way!
