Meet The World’s Fattest Wiener Dog
Obie is a 70-pound five-year-old dachshund. But fear not, his new owner is on a mission to turn him into the Biggest Loser: Canine Edition.
“He is a 5 year old standard dachshund. He is on a special diet to lose the weight and get back to being a happy dog. [His owners] think that he should weigh about 30 to 40 pounds. [They] immediately took him to the vet for blood work and it miraculously came back normal. [They] plan to do swim therapy with him and treadmill work once he starts to lose a little. He will need a dental and may eventually need to have excess skin surgically removed.”

atomsdispersed 8 months agoEmily: I agree. I think it’s an older generational thing. My mother (she’s 66 yrs old) equates food with love. She overfed a mutt we had. He was probably 30 lbs overweight.

Emily G. 8 months agoThe link says his owners were elderly. They sort of…spoiled him. My grandpa did the same thing with his dachshund. Not as extreme, but he was still overweight for his size. Not excusing their behavior but people do weird things, and others shouldn’t judge so harshly. I’m glad that they’re trying to get him down to a good weight though. That’s no life for a dog like that.

This is absolutely horrible!! The owners should be ashamed for letting him get this overweight, and the nerve to ask for donations!! Glad that his bloodwork was normal….poor lil guy :(

Mandy N. 8 months agoIf you click the link provided above and actually read the story of how this happened, it’s not like they were being intentionally irresponsible. Some seniors with failing health and minds don’t always do the right thing when it comes to their health or the health of their pets. It wasn’t cruelty that made him fat, they unfortunately are killing him with kindness. If you feel you need to be judgmental and finger point, blame the extended family who sat aside and watched and let the behaviour continue without interceding and getting this doggy on the right track with a proper diet.
