The 3 Worst Gay Sketches From Last Night’s “SNL”
Not even a shirtless Adam Levine can redeem these tired stereotypes.
1. Firehouse Incident
Bill Hader, as Bryce, freaks out when someone talks to his ex-girlfriend. The sketch relies heavily on a shrill, high-pitched character who threw tea at a girl who once tried to kiss him. Also, he has to dance out his drama.
2. Advice Show
The concept of two gay men providing straight people with dating advice has promise, but this one devolves into the old joke that all gay men pine for is to turn straight men gay.
3. Adam and Janet
A throwaway sketch toward the end of the night relied on the exhaustingly tired trope of male cast members dressed in drag. Really, that’s all.
On the flip side, The Lonely Island returned for an awesome Digital Short and revealed the true meaning of YOLO.

TylerRaftery 3 months agoSNL’s problem isn’t the stereotypes it portrays, it’s its horrid writing. However, when it combines horrible writing with MULTIPLE negative depictions of gay men in the course of one episode, there’s obviously something homophobic going on. You know you’re a bad comedy writer when you can’t even figure out a way to capitalize on stereotypes.

david0296 3 months agoCompletely agree. I had to fast-forward through the firehouse sketch it was SO bad. He was basically playing Stephon(?), but more shrill and obnoxious. It was embarrassing to watch. The other two sketches were equally bad and unfunny. I’m shocked Adam would play a stereotypical gay guy knowing that his brother is gay.
