Celebrities have taken to Twitter in droves and when you mix ego with 140 characters and an audience of millions, there's bound to be someone who makes a tit of themselves. Here are five such Tweeting tits who might wish they'd never opened their beaks!

1. Joey Barton

Footballer, Joey Barton already had a pretty bad reputation even before this month.

With a stint in prison for assault under his belt, a 4 month suspended sentence, an assault on a team mate and a host of football clubs in his past who just couldn't wait to get rid of him, he's not exactly Mr. Popular.

When he got sent off in his team's last Premier League match of the season against Manchester City, he could (and should) have just walked off the field. But instead, he quite literally 'kicked off.' And when football pundits, Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer discussed their disgust at his behaviour, Joey Barton took to Twitter to threaten them, slag them off and just complain about the whole event. This earned him plenty of negative press, including this piece in the Telegraph.

"I wanna do something that impact kids in a positive way, thats why im opening an abortion clinic. Ima call it 50/50 chance."

It will come as no surprise that this didn't go down all that well with many!

5. Perez Hilton

Perez Hilton has made a fortune from slagging celebs off, so credit where it's due! But in 2009 he Tweeted:

"I was assaulted by Will.I.Am of the Black Eyed Peas and his security guards. Please, I need to file a police report. No joke."

It later emerged that Will.I.Am never touched Hilton. But even if he had, why on Earth would you ask Twitter to call the police for you?
