222 Dogs & Cats Rescued From A Shelter In Wolfe City, TX

Under the authority of the Hunt County Constable, the SPCA of Texas seized 222 cruelly treated animals on Wednesday, July 23 from the Frank Barchard Memorial Animal Shelter in Wolfe City, TX. Warning, some of these images are hard to see.

One un-air conditioned building contained 89 animals. Fifteen cats were found to be living in a three-level wire cage that was encrusted in feces.

The animals were also suffering from medical neglect.

One air conditioned building contained 26 animals found to be living in various rooms and cages. There was a strong odor of ammonia inside this building.

Many of the animals appear to be suffering from open wounds, eye discharge, nasal discharge, hair loss, open surgery incisions, matted hair, tick infestation, long nails and other issues.

Our rescue staff found these three puppies alone in one of the rooms of the structure.

On July 16, Investigators from the SPCA of Texas and the Hunt County Constable visited the property to conduct an inspection as a part of an ongoing investigation spanning almost 1 year. The SPCA of Texas’ Investigator and the Hunt County Constable and found the animals to be cruelly confined and medically neglected and determined that it was in the animals' best interest to obtain a warrant and remove the animals immediately.

The water provided to many of the animals appears to be contaminated.

The 166 dogs, 43 cats, 14 kittens and 13 puppies are receiving fresh water, food, bedding and medical care from SPCA of Texas staff at the Russell H. Perry Animal Care Center in McKinney - where they'll stay until the hearing.
