      But basically, hetero couples raising children while not married get screwed over as well? I get that same-sex marriage isn’t possible everywhere, but this thing comes awfully close to a skewed representation of (albeit solid) facts.

      The odd part that everyone doesn’t realize is that getting married isn’t a tax break (assuming there are still two incomes)… in this case it would typically be a tax increase. Children and mortgages can be deducted but they can be deducted if you are single as well.

      How about nobody gets a tax break for deciding to live together and sign papers? That said, I’ll still vote in favor of gay marriage rights every time it comes up.
