The Internet Reacts To Queen Latifah Officiating Weddings During The Grammys

A lot of people cried, others just cringed.

1. Last night during the 56th Annual Grammy Awards, 34 couples were married by Queen Latifah during Macklemore and Ryan Lewis’ performance – Madonna performed as well.

The weddings, which included same-sex couples, occurred during the pair’s LGBT anthem “Same Love.”

2. Tumblr could barely handle all the emotions.

3. After it was cleared up that Queen Latifah was indeed ordained, emotions quickly took over.

May have just got a bit teary eyed at Macklemore x Queen Latifah x Madonna. 'Twas a beautiful thang.

I have to say, I was an emotional wreck after the Macklemore/Madonna/Queen Latifah/ceremony of LOVE at the #Grammys. I cried like a baby!!

— realtimpocock (@Tim Pocock)

That was one of the coolest things Ive ever seen on TV. Macklemore & Lewis, Queen Latifah, Mary Lambert & Madonna. #SameLove #GRAMMYs

— TheRock (@Dwayne Johnson)

Seriously, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Mary Lambert, Queen Latifah and Madonna's performance of Same Love was beautiful. I had goosebumps...

— jasonrenzullo (@Jason Renzullo)

11. So many #emotions, #feels, #tears.

MACKLEMORE IS SO INSPIRING. IM GLAD PEOPLE REALIZE LOVE IS LOVE AND SKIN COLOR DOESNT MATTER. We are ALL human. WE ARE ALL EQUAL

— TTLYTEALA (@Teala Dunn)

#SameLove was incredible. Love to @Macklemore, @RyanLewis, @MaryLambertSing @Madonna & @IAmQueenLatifah for a beautiful performance #GRAMMYs

— TheEllenShow (@Ellen DeGeneres)

Anyone else still sobbing over Queen Latifah marrying 34 couples during Macklemore's performance of #SameLove on the #Grammys? #LoveIsLove

— EmmyUnwritten (@Emmy Rivera)

My face hurts from smiling. That was one of the coolest things I've ever gotten to see. Much much love. Well done, Grammys.

— ActuallyNPH (@Neil Patrick Harris)

15. BOOM! Love and equality – everyone is happy right?

16. Well… some people weren’t quite so moved, feeling the mass wedding was overly gimmicky.

I would be upset if one of the most important days of my life was a political gimmick involving Queen Latifah #weird #Grammys2014

— Keith_Parker1 (@Keith Parker)

Wanna be a prop in glitterized show-biz performance? Get married at the Grammys! (Am I the only one who finds this tacky?)

— TheQueenSammy (@♛Samantha Oehley)

I just kinda feel like the marriages at the Grammy's last night were a prop.

— lilwesman (@Wesley Thomas Pivec)

19. Instead of tears, there were cringes-a-plenty.

Macklemore's presence at the Grammy's was really cringe-worthy, and a lot of people in the room knew it, but whatever.

— lilgautama (@cordell)

Macklemore/Queen Latifah/weird wedding thing at the Grammy's makes me want to swerve my car into a semi head on in the morning.

— jamesleiker (@James Leiker)

But seriously. I'll always love you, Queen Latifah, but I am so embarrassed for you right now.

— bonneanneeray (@eva-jean debs)

Thought that I might want to watch the Grammys, but the whole 'Same Love' wedding gimmick is making me cringe.

— mgngmch (@Meagan Gamache)

23. Conservatives, including Fox News commentator Todd Starnes, saw the display as a direct attack on marriage.

Remember when The Grammys was about music - and not cramming a social agenda down our throats?

— toddstarnes (@toddstarnes)

Sick. #grammys

— toddstarnes (@toddstarnes)

Mass Gay weddings performed live at the Grammys...world gone insane..God help us

— dveryman (@frank okeke)

Grammys say 'we do,' get political with mass wedding. This is the legal way to publicly attack Christianity. http://t.co/CgH1uT43Su

— RealTruePatriot (@A. D. Hardwick)

The grammys was a clear attack on Christianity #GRAMMYs #RT

— acelove1993 (@Ace Sylvester)

28. A few people went into the performance bent on disliking it, but the feelings proved too strong.

Dammit, I hate myself for loving that mass wedding at the Grammys.

— jawonthefloor (@JAW)

I thought that wedding thing on the Grammys sounded tacky & horrible, then I watched it and got ridiculously choked up.

— TaraEAnderson (@Tara Anderson)

30. So, was the wedding horrible or was everything else except the wedding horrible?

Everything about this grammys was absolutely horrible with the exception of the mass gay wedding performed by queen latifah with madonna

— Mglabz (@Marky Mark)

31. Even if people were unclear on their feelings, everyone agreed on one thing:

All weddings should be officiated by Queen Latifah.

— RonanFarrow (@Ronan Farrow)

32. What do you think?
