Mankind has continuously evolvedtheir meansfor transportation. Since the invention of wheel, the very purpose of it has expanded through different modes of transportation. Today, a person can travel by air, road or rail. However, there are still a number of unconventional transport facilities being used, that may seem strange to most people, in this age of technology.

Ecuador’s Chiva Express

It is hard to tell whether this transport facility, Chiva Express,is a bus or a train. It was initially used for tour purposes. It used to carry tourists from Plaza Grande, in Quito,through the stunning Andian scenery to Hacienda San Augustin, near Cotopaxi volcano. The routes were unfortunately closed down by locals due to safety concerns.

Despite the shutdown, Chiva Express can still be seen functional on the rural roads of Venezuela, Colombia, Bolivia, and a few regions of Ecuador. If any person comes across this special transport facility, he or she should not look startled given that they see a fully loaded bus-train with bundles of coffee, bananas, dogs, pigs, chickens, cats, cows, and human beings.

Netherland’s Amfibus

This is a ‘floating bus’ on a river. Sounds strange, but it is the main attraction of Rotterdam’s (Netherland) Maas River. Charging 24.50 Euros for a bus tour, tourists have a good time experiencing the city of Rotterdam in Amfibus.

Recently, ferries on River Clyde (close to Glasgow City) were replaced by these ‘floating buses’.

Portugal’s Toboggan

Also referred to as ‘the daredevil’s ride’, Tobogganis a transport that can go up to 48 kilometers per hour. It is used primarily for an adrenaline packed 2 kilometers ride down a crooked hill of Monte to Funchal neighborhood of Portugal. The strangest thing about it is that this transport does not have any proper brakes.

Cambodia’s Bamboo Train

Equipped with an engine and re-used military tank wheels, Bamboo Train is a famous mode of transportation for the locals of Cambodia. It has a square platform on it which is made up of bamboo sticks, and is primarily used for transporting almost all kind of things – from chicken to scooters.

High-seated carriage pulled by one or two horses is known as Tangah in Pakistan. This may not be a comfortable ride but is definitely an amusing one to ride in.

Strangely, Tangah ride is used for all sort of things. From transporting goods to transporting people, it is also used as a ‘royal ride’ in marriages where the groom and the bride travel in shiny cart, pulled by a well-dressed horse.
