the speech is nice and I give her credit for being brave and all but is seems almost fake the way it is delivered. She is awful bored with the speech that is going to ‘change her life forever.’

We’re simultaneously supposed to say “Hey, being gay is no big deal” but when someone comes out in this narcissistic way, we’re supposed to shower them in praise about how brave and courageous they are? It can’t be both ways.

I remember this one dude tried to do this same during junior year. After his ceremonious speech, I stood up and yelled ” Yea we know already. Shutup so we can go home.” Needless to say, I got the applause because the entire school already knew. He just wanted to make a big production out of it and expected some Glee style singalong to happen. Note to gays: like 85% of the population doesnt care. We just dont want to hear it because you always pick some inopportune time to do so.

I’m all for her being honest and I want to admire her courage but I’m distracted by the “Soliloquy” she’s delivering.

That’s funny because Maria Carillo is a high school where this doesn’t slide the neighboring high school Santa Rosa high was the one that was accepting. She is very brave because of the judgement that probably has come down upon her.
