Meet Emmy: The reason DC drivers should stop texting and driving.

Texting and driving has become a major public policy issue across the nation. With the district demonstrating outrage against new regulations, Emmy thought she’d demonstrate the necessity of new laws. In D.C. it is now against the law to use a handheld device while your vehicle is turned on. (Photo credit: JoAnna Lund: The Salty Marauder).

Emmy, a sea foam green motorcycle, celebrated her fifth birthday over the Labor Day weekend.

    That’s right, a motorcycle.

She is named after my favorite horse.

Emmy has traveled far and wide across the United States.

    She has endured the elements.

    And taken some hard hits.

So Emmy has decided to call out some of DC’s finest drivers. Smile and wave boys, smile and wave.

Every day, Emmy is up against those who text and drive.

And while her rider disregards her filter in traffic, others seem to be picking theirs on instagram.

This guy sat through two lights in the middle of an intersection.

She is forced to endure strange men who leave their vehicles unattended in the middle of traffic to discuss her greatness.

For she is so great, even the dogs are staring.

She gets her read on at the Library of Congress.

And has become an established sense of freedom.

She studied the law and is the reason the University of Minnesota changed their motorcycle parking laws in 2011.

She fits just about anywhere, even random islands in front of Union Station.

She offers friends their Passport to Paris moments.

and gets 90 mph to the gallon.

She supports the wise use of helmets, making her mark on public policy.

Emmy has had her fair share of roadblocks, including an expensive attempt at theft.

However, in the end, she will forge on like the founding fathers of this nation.

So when you think texting, emailing, instagramming, or tweeting is a good idea behind the wheel, think of Emmy or that $100 you'll sincerely miss when DCPD gives you a ticket---whichever is going to lessen Emmy's chances of getting hit by another distracted driver.
