Everything You Need To Know About "The Fault In Our Stars"

Because of the new movie coming out , here's everything you need to know about TFIOS.

The Fault In Our Stars is one of the biggest books for teens right now. The Fault In Our Stars is by author John Green , who along with TFIOS, has written books like Paper Towns , An Abundance Of Katherines , and Michael L. Printz award winning book Looking For Alaska . Not only is he a best selling author, but he also runs the YouTube channel Vlogbrothers along with his brother, Hank Green, with over 1 million subscribers called "nerdfighters", who form one of the biggest fan communities on the Internet, who even raise money for different charities in need for a Vlogbrothers-created organization called Project For Awesome .

In Green's novel- that's the equivalent of a hornet's nest buzzing with humor, love, and death,The Fault In Our Stars tells the story of morose, reclusive 16 year-old cancer patient Hazel Lancaster. After being dragged to a cancer support group, she meets a suave, perplexing cancer survivor, dubbed Augustus Waters (who lost his right leg to osteosarcoma, and is in remission), and ends up falling in love with him.

The title comes from the famous Shakespeare line from Julius Caesar (i.e. Act 1, Scene 2, in case you're a literature obsessed nerd like I am): The aristocrat Cassius conveys to Brutus: 'The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars, / But in ourselves, that we are underlings.'

In January 2012, Fox 2000 acquired the rights to turn TFIOS into a movie. Josh Boone signed on to direct in February of this year. Shailene Woodley ( Divergent, The Secret Life Of The American Teenager, The Descendants ) has been cast to play Hazel, and Ansel Elgort ( Carrie, Divergent ) will be playing Augustus. Nat Wolff will be playing Augustus & Hazel's best friend, Isaac, and Laura Dern will be Hazel's mother.

TFIOS has gotten a plentitude of impressive reviews, from Time Magazine bestowing it the "#1 fiction book of 2012." E. Lockhart ( The Boyfriend List ) has said of Green's work: "He makes me laugh and gasp at the beauty of a sentence or the twist of a tale. He is one of the best writers alive and I am seething with envy of his talent." Jodi Picoult ( My Sister's Keeper ) has said The Fault in Our Stars is "an electric portrait of young people who learn to live life with one foot in the grave.", and the novel is "filled with staccato bursts of humor and tragedy."

But, with all the praise Green is getting, there is some controversy and prejudice. According to John Green's tumblr, The Daily Mail has called TFIOS "mawkish" and "exploitave" and even saying "Let's hope publishers do have young people's interests at heart - and they are not selling books by sensationalising children's suffering." (Although, personally, as a teenager myself- please do not dismiss me as childish and callow, I swear I'm a sensible person!- I find that somewhat absurd, but I'm not getting into that argument.)

In all seriousness, The Fault In Our Stars has touched millions and has gotten so much praise over the last year that I advise you to pick up a copy (or at your local library) before it hits the big screen.
