We're 99% Sure We've Discovered The Birdman's Identity In True Detective S2E6

Maybe? Maybe 90%. But let's just go with it. Spoilers ahead.

We've been asking this question all season. Who drove Caspere out to a public place and set up his corpse for anyone to find? Who shot Ray Velcoro with riot bullets? Who is the Birdman? This episode finally gave a giant hint at who the Birdman might be.

Here's what we know. The Birdman drove around Caspere's corpse and left the body somewhere out in the open for anyone to find.

The Birdman shot Ray at the end of Episode 2.

Here's the first clue as to Birdman's identity from Episode 3:

In other words, it's likely that Birdman is a cop.

In Episode 6, Frank tracks down Irena Rolfo. He's trying to find out who gave her Caspere's belongings, like the watch, and possibly the hard drive. She describes the man:

Of course she agrees to identify him, only to show up dead immediately after. Are the Mexicans colluding with the Birdman to cover up his identity?

So we're looking for a skinny white cop who's also a "jefe." That means the Birdman must be:

It's been a popular theory on Reddit for weeks now, and Episode 6 definitely threw fuel on that fire. If you're making bets, put your money on Burris.

Detective Lieutenant Burris seemed to have a lot of questions for Ray after he decided to quit the force.

Burris told Ray he wanted to "learn some thing about Dixon...he has some photographs, a lot of other stuff, he might have been into some people."

Why was Burris at the site of Ray's shooting so fast? No one really believes his answer:

Was he making sure that there wasn't any evidence he had been there? Since he was there hours before shooting Ray and stealing the hard drive?

If you start to accept Burris is the Birdman, you start to see him in more places. Consider Ray's dream sequence.

A popular Reddit theory purports that Burris was actually speaking to Ray, who was in an unconscious state. Burris trailed Ray there, so he didn't know where they were. Ray got there first. Burris is saying to Ray: "I don't know where we are. I followed you here."

Detective Burris always seems to be watching Ray.

He's also the one who assigned Ray to look for Caspere in Episode 1. If he is the Birdman, he moved the body into a different jurisdiction on purpose.

Burris was missing from one important scene. He wasn't at the sex party.

Any of which could have killed Caspere.

Blake was also there. Why wasn't Burris there?

So is Birdman Burris just another corrupt cop, or could he be trying to lead the detectives to uncover Vinci corruption? AHHH IDK AHHHH
