Millennials At Work: Expectations Vs. Reality
What do you mean "Being Matt Bellassai" isn't an appropriate career goal?
Expectation: You'll become great sitcom-like friends with your co-workers.
Reality: You're already tired of them just from their Facebook.
Expectation: You'll know exactly what HR is talking about when it comes to health care benefits and a 401k, and you'll take full advantage of all of them.
Reality: You wouldn't use your benefits even if you knew what HR was talking about.
Expectation: You're going to get your act together and start eating better now that you're an adult in a work place of business.
Reality: Being an adult is hard and pizza is a million times better.
Expectation: There are 168 hours in a week, 40 hours a week is going to be no problem!
Reality: You're reminded for the first time since college that mornings exist.
Expectation: Full-time job = finally being able to afford to exist.
Reality: You're just trying to afford the bare necessities.
Expectation: Having a clean break room stocked with snacks.
Reality: Messy break rooms because heating up lunch is apparently a very difficult task.
Expectation: Finding a workplace mentor that will help you with your career goals.
Reality: You boss criticizes your every move.
Expectation: Finally feeling like an adult because you got a job.
Reality: Being reminded by your friends that you actually have no idea how to be an adult.
