Ever since Trainspotting became the coolest British film of the 1990s, we've been waiting for another truly great Irvine Welsh adaptation.

And for 17 years, we've been disappointed.

But all that might be about to change with this trailer for Filth, a film based - pretty faithfully as far as we can tell - on Welsh's 2008 novel of the same name. It's easily the most cynical, unpleasant and explicit story Welsh has ever produced. It's also one of the funniest.

James McAvoy - using his natural accent for the first time in a while - plays the scheming, corrupt, drug-addled PC Bruce Robertson, with a decent support cast that includes Jamie Bell, Joanne Froggatt, Eddie Marsan, Jim Broadbent and Imogen Poots.

It remains to be seen whether Filth really is a worthy successor to Trainspotting. In the meantime we're wondering: is this the rudest movie trailer ever made?
