Murrine: A Form Of Glass-Based Art That Is Sold By The Slice.

Murrine [singluar: murrina or murrini] is an Italian term for designs, patterns or images created with different colours in a glass rod or cane. The art element is revealed by cutting the glass cross sectionally, much like a loaf of bread. (Not that there's any art on bread to be revealed - unless we're talking about PB&J - that's straight up art to my stomach!)

Artist Loren Stump from Sacramento, California is well-known for his of work with glass paperweights, beads and jewellery, statues and his manipulation and progression from two to three dimensional glass forms. He began over forty years ago as a stained glass artist. However, in 1991, he discovered his natural talent and affinity towards working with glass in its molten form. Stump's most popular murrine is his recreation of Leonardo Da Vinci's "Madonna of the Rocks".
