This one is for those of you (me) who hate Christmas cakes or puddings but think they look cute. Search the back of your cupboard and you’ve probably got one hidden there. We all have faith that Nigella Lawson will make something wonderful and easy and this is no exception. It’s essentially Christmas pudding crumbled into sherry and golden syrup, then mixed with melted dark chocolate. Melt some white chocolate and cut up some green and red snakes (or glace cherries, whatever) for decoration, and it’s done!

This is good if you’re feeling really lazy, or need to take some aggression out on something. You can crush some candy canes by putting them in a sandwich bag and hitting the heck out of them with a meat tenderiser, melt white or milk chocolate (or both, if you’re feeling adventurous), spread out in one layer on a tray, and sprinkle the crushed candy canes over the top. The full recipe is here and it’s easy to follow, looks beautiful and works a treat. A tip from someone who’s not good at this sort of thing and made this last Christmas: take care when adding the pink food colouring to the mousse. It may turn runny and you may need to make it more than once.

Though this isn’t technically a Christmas recipe, it looks delightfully festive. The recipe is here, and multiple Christmas substitutions like peppermint essence for lemon rind would surely be welcome. It’s also gluten free, so it’s winning all of the things.
