15 Photos Of Brazilian Sex Workers Who Are Preparing For The World Cup

These are striking photos of sex workers in the city.

As the World Cup approaches and thousands of football fans flock to Rio de Janeiro, sex workers are anticipating increased business.

In the Vila Mimosa prostitution zone, Rio's working-class red light district, photographer Mario Tama photographed some of those sex workers.

Prostitution is legal in Brazil and a total of 3.7 million tourists are expected to be in the country during World Cup festivities.

However, it is illegal to operate a brothel or to employ prostitutes in any other way.

In 2002, sex worker organization Davida contributed to the Brazilian Ministry of Labor by successfully adding "sex worker" to an official list of occupations.
