London's public restrooms are getting a new lease on life as developers and history lovers look to take advantage of subterranean square footage in the crowded city.

Forget not crapping where you eat

Most large cities present a rather interesting conundrum when you're out and about and need to use a restroom. Victorian (and later) era London was dotted with public restrooms - mostly underground. Those bathrooms have since (mostly) been closed and many have fallen into disrepair.

However, some are seeing a new lease on life as community members are stepping up and renovating them.

Londonist's latest piece on these toilets-turned-posh spots is pretty great.

The Attendant - 27a Foley Street, London W1W 6DY

Opened recently, The Attendant is a former 1890ish toilet that's been transformed into a quaint cafe complete with food, espresso and even a catering offering. Check out their site for more info.

This old toilet in London's super-trendy Shoreditch once looked like something out of a Saw movie. Though, with a little elbow grease (and probably a lot of cash), it's a sleek home for it's new owner. See the photo set from the Telegraph to get a better idea of the renovation.
