These Beautiful Photos Show Just How Obtainable Sydney's Property Market Is

    Did someone say 'open-plan bathroom'?

You may have noticed a lot of people lately complaining about Sydney property prices and how it's "expensive" or "unobtainable" or "I sold a kidney to pay my rent."

For example, this parking spot in Kirribilli recently sold for $120,000. (That view though. Your Nissan Micra has never been happier)

Well, maybe these Negative Nancies just aren't looking hard enough. There are heaps of apartments right in the heart of Sydney that are going CHEAP. AS.

Who wouldn't want to shower in this delightful, open-plan bathroom?

And the convenience! You could have a sink right next to your bed! No more getting up to pee in the middle of the night for you.

But wait, did we mention, SECOND BATHROOM.

It just looks so ~cosy.~ And it could be yours for only $150 a week

The above photos are actually of an illegal slum being run in Sydney.

Lord Mayor Clover Moore has announced the formation of a new Unauthorised Accommodation Investigation Team to crack down on slums in Sydney.

Moore yesterday told stories of 58 beds being crammed into a three bedroom apartment, where people, often overseas students, were found to be sleeping in cupboards, on stairwells and fire exits.

Over the past three months the team has investigated 38 properties and executed 20 search warrants where it found cockroach-infested apartments, disconnected smoke detectors and bathrooms set up in hallways.

This is the squad. Look how serious they are.

The squad is headed up by Specialist Roy Cottam, a former Senior Detective who has worked with New Scotland Yard's Specialist Operations Command.

"We are coming after you," Cottam told Sydney's slumlords yesterday. "We will also focus our resources on those who take advantage of vulnerable people by setting up networks of unauthorised share accommodation for large-scale financial gain."

Late last year 14 people had to be rescued in Alexandria in the city's inner-west after a fire broke out in their squalid homes, where many were sleeping in minibuses and shipping containers.

The new squad is the first of its kind in Australia.

"Because of the highly organised nature of some of these operations – and their level of deception – the City felt a dedicated team with specialist investigative skills was required to crack down on this practice that is putting the safety of vulnerable young people at risk," Lord Mayor Clover Moore said.

"The new team includes former police officers with skills in counter-terrorism and forensic evidence gathering who are dedicated to stopping this concerning issue. We are taking a multi-agency approach, co-operating with NSW Police Force, Fire and Rescue NSW, NSW Fair Trading, the Australian Tax Office and other relevant agencies."
