Here's What The Internet Would've Looked Like On August 15, 1947

Long years ago, we made a tryst with destiny. You won't believe what happened next.

Let's imagine for a minute that the internet, in its current iteration, existed on August 15, 1947. This is probably what India's trending topics would be.

Everyone's profile pictures would IMMEDIATELY adopt a celebratory overlay.

And every status would look like this.

Obviously, this iconic speech would be live-streamed to viewers around the world.

And, within an hour, the comments section would be a wasteland.

And it would promptly be reviewed, too.

There would be lists.

Many, many lists.

All full of good, well-meaning advice.

The Times of India would weigh in with some genuinely important reportage.

And, holy crap, the internet would be SATURATED with think-pieces.

India's comedians would have a field day.

And someone would make a web series about four friends just trying to start a revolution, no big deal.

There would be way too many of these.

And there would be absolutely no dearth of quizzes.

E-commerce websites would exploit the hell out of this opportunity to make some quick ₹₹₹.

There would be memes! Of course there would be a "Good Guy Gandhi" meme.

And "First World Problems" would be tweaked for first worlders currently in the third world on imperial duties.

The revolution, in its entirety, would be Instagrammed.

And it would obviously be Snapchatted, too.

Reddit, as always, is where the most important conversations would be taking place.

And Twitter, per usual, would be a wilderness of bad puns, regrettable opinions, and unnecessary aggression.

Aaaaaand, as it always does, the internet would come full circle right here.
