CSI Writer Sued for Defamation

6 Million dollars is the amount that real estate agents Scott and Melinda Tamkin are seeking from CSI Producer/Writer Sarah Goldfinger for allegedly defaming them in an episode of CSI. In the episode, the two were portrayed as having a “reckless lifestyle of sexual bondage, pornography, drunkenness, marital discord, depression, financial straits and possibly even murder.” At one time the Tamkin's sold a house to Goldfinger, but the producer pulled out of the deal.

  • Nobody would have known that was them if they hadn't stepped up and volunteered the information.  All TV shows have a standard disclaimer in the credits explaining why you can't sue them. As long as different names were used, they've got no case whatsoever.

  • Um…The characters last names in the show were different, I think that by wisely changing the names they have avoided any defamation of character. Not a cool thing to do on the writer's part, but there's no way that 6 million dollars worth of damage was done to the Tamkin's reputation.

  • That's a way to write yourself out of a job that I hadn't heard of before.  She's writing for CSI, what did she expect would happen?

  • I would imagine that the realtors are about to get paid. That is really a lousy thing to do, but then again, that is a lousy, shitty show.
