1. Scar (The Lion King)

Scar is the Nigel Farage of Pride Rock. He believes that he can disrupt the status quo, perceiving himself to be a fearless outsider in a system with an incompetent leader at its helm. Once he is in charge, however, his subjects become disenfranchised and realise that things were far better when no one cared about him and he had no power.

So they kill him.

2. George Banks (Mary Poppins)

There is no denying the facts about George Banks as they are presented to us: he works in the City; he is a stern believer in traditional family values; and he derides his wife and the 'Votes for Women' movement about which she cares so deeply. He would have felt more at home in the UK Independence Party than in a suit and tie. Epiphany plays a crucial role in this man's story, however, proving that there is hope for everyone out there. Caterpillars are forever turning into butterflies.

3. Ursula (The Little Mermaid)

Described as "a dark and sinister villain with a sense of humour", Ursula could easily have stood for a by-election as a UKIP candidate, not just voted for the party. Charismatic but malevolent, she is a poster woman for Farage's controversial collection of colonels and crackpots.

5. Gaston (Beauty and the Beast)

Gaston's attitudes toward women are of a bygone era; he believes that Belle is to be conquered and then relegated to the kitchen, where she ought to be seen and not heard. He is forever suspicious and jealous of Beast, a foreign and threatening force who owns a large property but has no job, and therefore probably scrounges benefits off the state.

Iago has had a torrent of discontent brewing inside him for his entire life. He uses humour to deflect attention away from serious problems in his personality - namely that he is power-hungry, always irritable, and sexually frustrated. Constantly sidelined and mocked for being ludicrous, he would only ever have voted for one party.

Yep, there's two UKIP supporters in Aladdin. Don't let the jovial exterior fool you; inside that rotund frame beats the heart of a Eurosceptic, one so wedded to tradition - in particular that of arranged marriage - that contemplating something like gay marriage would be treasonous.

It may sadden readers to learn of the Sultan's political leanings, but if it can happen with one lovable grey-haired icon (Des Lynam), it can happen with any of them.

8. Yzma (The Emperor's New Groove)

Besides the fact that she demonstrates her allegiance to UKIP by almost totally covering herself in purple (the colour of madness), Yzma is a classic UKIP supporter: hungry for glory she will never attain, and doomed to sit forever at the right hand of power, licking up its crumbs.

Too young to vote when we meet him in the original Toy Story film, there's no doubt that when he became of voting age Sid would only have placed an X in one box. A disturbed young gentleman, he is clearly unhappy with the state of the world and would have seen in UKIP a vehicle for his many gripes and frustrations.

Why is Grumpy grumpy? He is grumpy because he believes the liberal media elite don't dedicate sufficient time to the parties outside the Westminster bubble. He is grumpy because new EU guidelines stipulate that 'Whistle While You Work' needs to be replaced by a more multicultural workplace anthem. He is grumpy because the nanny state says he can no longer smoke in pubs.

Oh, and because his wife divorced him for an immigrant.
