Yes, the person who made this mixed up the various types of dates. This is directly from the USDA’s website. Types of Dates A “Sell-By” date tells the store how long to display the product for sale. You should buy the product before the date expires. A “Best if Used By (or Before)” date is recommended for best flavor or quality. It is not a purchase or safety date. A “Use-By” date is the last date recommended for the use of the product while at peak quality. The date has been determined by the manufacturer of the product. “Closed or coded dates” are packing numbers for use by the manufacturer. http://www.fsis.usda.gov/factsheets/food_product_dating/

yeah… I’m glad i can get back up on when food is perishable! I used to get so much flack for eating food past the date on the package. People you have to be smart: smell and taste it to see if its good or not.
That banana one can’t be right?! I stopped putting mine in the fridge because they would turn brown within a couple of days.
although I suppose that wouldn’t make them inedible since you can bake with brown bananas. anyway…
Eggs counter/pantry a few hours. Really? Come to the UK, eggs are kept on unrefrigerated shelves in the supermarket.
