SB 1342 WILL NOT BE CALLED FOR A VOTE. EVERYBODY DANCE!
Individuals and organizations across Illinois have rallied in opposition to SB 1342, a mandatory minimum gun bill proposed by Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel. The bill was expected to get a vote in the Illinois House during a special December session. It will NOT. Discussions about a comprehensive (criminal justice) approach are promised during the spring legislative session. Proponents of the bill are likely to try to pass SB 1342 (or some version of it) at that time. Opponents will continue to fight the bill if/when it comes up again in 2014. But for now, we celebrate.
