During the five smuggling attempts last Thursday and Friday at the San Ysidro and Calexico ports of entry, officers seized almost 17 pounds of marijuana and a little more than a pound of brown heroin, worth an estimated $38,000. The recent apprehensions continue a trend seen by CBP in Southern California: using teens to smuggle narcotics as they attempt to enter the U.S. on foot.
