Illegal Fishing Is Killing 100,000 Albatrosses A Year

Illegal fishing is becoming an increasingly large issue within the UK, there hasn't been many reports from main stream outlets about just how widespread this issue is but thanks to BuzzFeed we can now publish some data from sources to highlight the issue we are facing.

The stats

Here are some stats you may not be aware of regarding illegal fishing methods, these are collected from the North East Tackle Supplies official infograph.

1. It's predicted that if we don't stop illegal fishing methods our favourite fishes could be gone by 2048.

2. Around 100,000 birds are killed each year as they dive for the bait and get causght on the lines, these lines then drag them under water and they are drowned.

3. Fishing licences that are used to fish legally in the UK cost under £30 for an entire year.

4. 27 million tonnes of fish are caught and thrown back overboard, this has led to vast overfishing and it's becoming a much larger problem as other ocean life gets trapped.
