The "Gamer" Girl
Hey. So maybe this article will get me thousands of outrages and what not but I decided to write this article anyway. I am sure for people who play video games in a regular basis and/or watched game streaming, follow gaming YouTubers have seen the flow of the "girl gamers", there is nothing wrong being a girl, playing games and having a channel dedicated to their passion but being a girl gamer, I do not understand the need for the makeup and very low neck shirts that these "girl gamers" wear. If I were to make a channel out of games I play and stream my games, what I would do is mostly focus on THE GAME and not on things like how much cleavage is being shown or if my eye makeup is top notch. The camera is up on the air and their neckline is down to the point that a single push can just reveal it all, so why is that needed in a game? I believe these are the reasons women are not taken seriously in gaming, I mean c'mmon! Who wouldn't objectify women if they objectify themselves? I am not going to name anyone, but one such girl gamer's picture posted on Facebook got a comment that said "Why do gamer girls always have to get dolled up and titties hanging out just to stream lol." The reply just made me go like, ok what. Anyway, this was the reply, "because if we don't put any effort in we get called ugly. We can't win either way, so I make myself look how I feel most confident for putting myself out there." I really don't get what she meant by "We get called ugly" lol why would anyone care about your looks if your sole focus is game and that is what your channel/page is "dedicated" to. Really when I play my games, I am like in the most absurd look, with the messiest hair and sweatpants no matter who I play with or how many guys are around me. Most importantly the term "gamer girl" is fucking stupid, no matter what the gender, it's just gamer, cause I am sure nobody calls a guy a "boy gamer". To all the people calling themselves "gamer" and showing off their body and make up routine instead, I know it's your business and you can keep polluting the word "gamer" but really, just think about how you are objectifying us women.
