Lisa Frank Illustrations Used To Outline The Pointlessness Of It All

When you stare into the abyss, the glassy, neon-coloured eyes of a bear in a tutu stare back.

Nihilisa Frank is a Tumblr account that’s gained thousands of reblogs and Facebook likes since it started in September this year.

The premise is simple: putting quotes from nihilistic and existentialist philosophy over the saccharine illustrations of Lisa Frank.

The combination is in equal parts hilarious and dismal.

“The idea came to me when I saw one of Frank’s glassy-eyed bears in a tutu that appeared to be staring into an abyss,” the creator of the project told BuzzFeed.

“It reminded me of Nietzsche’s aphorism, ‘When you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you.’”

"The project started as a way for me to cope with the daily drudgery of life."

It's not all bad, though.

"It's comforting to share this strange camaraderie with my followers," they said, "and we can all laugh together until the darkness (or perhaps neon rainbow unicorn) takes us."
