1. On Thursday, Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice was suspended for the first two games of the NFL season following his offseason altercation with Janay Palmer, his then-fiancée, in which he allegedly knocked her unconscious while in a casino elevator.
The announcement of this “insufficient punishment” was met with massive backlash from media and fans, leading up to an examination of sexism in sports and an epic takedown of the NFL by Keith Olbermann during his Thursday night show, in which Olbermann states, “The message to the women who the league claims constitute 50 percent of its fan base is simple: The NFL wants your money. It will do nothing else for you. It will tolerate those who abuse you verbally and those who abuse you physically.”
