5 Top-Ranked Foods In The Aggregate Nutrient Density Index

Whole Foods uses this system. Get the most healthful 'bang' for your grocery 'buck.'

The Aggregate Nutrient Density Index (ANDI) is a relatively new nutrition rating system created by Dr. Joel Fuhrman. Scores are given on a scale of 1,000 to 0 with 1,000 being the most nutrient-dense. Here's the formula:

Calcium, Carotenoids: Beta Carotene, Alpha Carotene, Lutein & Zeaxanthin, Lycopene, Fiber, Folate, Glucosinolates, Iron, Magnesium, Niacin, Selenium, Vitamin B1 (Thiamin) Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin), Vitamin B6, Vitamin B12, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Zinc

    x 2

    1. Kale

    2. Collards

    3. Bok Choy

    4. Spinach

    5. Brussel Sprouts

So there you have it. You can go here for a fuller list of the ANDI rankings. But don't let this system be your only guide. I couldn't find any information on peer reviews (Dr. Fuhrman published a book on this, not a paper) and we all know that other articles on Buzzfeed have been ripped apart when subjected to scientific scrutiny. The ANDI rankings probably won't lead you astray on its top foods, but it also makes meat, seafood, and dairy seem useless. So take this with a grain of salt and try some of these nutrient-dense foods if you haven't already.
