    Bonfires And Air Quality

Bonfires can be perfect on a chilly summer night, but it's important to keep in mind the larger impact of burning.

Bonfires can be a quintessential summer activity.

But it is important to remember the larger impact of these fires.

Wood smoke can be dangerous, even at low levels, because it contains an abundance of chemicals.

Bonfires contribute to air pollution, specifically fine particle pollution.

Try to reduce the number, size or duration of bonfires - especially if you live in a city.

Never have a bonfire on days where there is an air quality alert.

If the air is still, that means that the smoke will linger and pollution could be worse.

Take care to properly dry and season your firewood.

Only burn wood when moisture is 20% or less.

Never burn other materials. Anything other than dry firewood could create even more smoke that is often very toxic.
