The day before it happened, a ton of Sanitation workers came around and tied garbages to the lamp posts… with the cheap neon rope and double knotted. Somehow, they deemed it necessary to work in teams of two to do this task. I saw them doing it around 14th and 6th, and the photo of the garbage can against the wall looks like it’s been taken out of the black receptacle that was “tied down”

tape isnt supposed to reinforce a window. no one thinks it will make it stronger. tape keeps you from having shattered glass everywhere if the window breaks.

taping windows does help if the glass shatters. sand bags are common practice to block a small flood. however what are all those cardboard boxes, garbage bags, sheets (?) going to do?

May have been a dud for NYC, but not for other parts of NY that got hit. We’ve had flooded homes and washed out roads up in the suburbs.

I guess the psychic knew it was nothing to worry about.

I think the caption for this piece was a foolish stretch. There’s nothing wrong whatsoever with ANY of the preparations those NY folks concocted to help cut back on water damage, glass breakage, filth, etc. —As someone who’s gone through a hurricane, I don’t look down on ANYONE’S precautions when it comes to trying to help salvage their valuable property/ameliorate destruction, especially (I’m supposing) given the problems most people have with their insurance agencies. Again, I give my props to all those who at least made an effort to guard their cars and shops and shrines. I’ll save my snickering until after the dead are counted.
