Does *everyone* have their mind in the gutter these days?  So I guess this is why we don’t see commercials for “Spic (56) and Span” that cleans Gook (32) off your floor any more. Or any Skeet (57) Shooting. But Trim (62)? Come on. There’s nothing wrong with the word Trim.  With this list, most sitcoms from the 90s would never be seen again. How did we go backward in such a short time?

This isn’t really an official list though it’s mostly true. Cable networks aren’t required to censor by law and could theoretically show hardcore porn on basic cable. They don’t because they have deals with advertisers and cable companies.

Is this just broadcast television? Like ABC, CBS, NBC..so on?

There’s quite a few of these that are allowed, especially depending on the context. For example, Sons of Anarchy and The Walking dead have had the N-word on there (it was important to the dialogue), in both racist and non-racist contexts. Also, I’d just like to put it out there that these rules are set by the FCC, and they have no jurisdiction over cable. A cable channel could technically play hardcore porn and would not face repercussions (from the FCC anyway).

I’ve heard at least 41 of these on TV, and I only have basic cable.

Puck called Jesus his “number one heeb” just a few weeks ago on Fox’s Glee. I guess context counts, since the character is Jewish and didn’t intend it as a slur.

I think of myself as a connoisseur of dirty words but there are a few on this list that I’ve never heard of. Also, some words on this list are permitted on some channels.

Where’s this list from, and when? Happy Days - Tuesday November 18, 1975 - “Richie, Potsie and Ralph think they have rented a cabin at Lake Whitefish for the Easter holidays, only to find that they have rented the porch of the place.
