Jordyn Wieber Rage In One Chart
Were Joydyn Wieber and athletes from Great Britain, China, and Russia robbed?
At the Women’s Olympic Gymnastic preliminaries, the current World Champion, Jordyn Wieber, came in 4th place out of 60 athletes. 24 athletes qualified for the all-around competition.
Jordyn wasn’t one of them.
Why? Because of a “two-per country” rule that says only 2 athletes from one country can qualify for the all-around event. The rule was put in place to promote diversity and prevent a medal sweep.
Basically, Jordyn came in 4th place and didn’t qualify, while the person who came in 28th place did.
4. The 4 gymnasts that technically qualified, but will not be able to compete are:
British gymnast Jennifer Pinches.

genes4 8 months agoWhy is it that I don’t see one word about WHY Jordyn Wieber received a lower score even with a superior performance (I don’t recall seeing her make two faults on the beam) whereas Douglas who fell off the beam twice was GIVEN a higher score.
Given the facts, and despite the fact that most of us know what happened because we saw it with our own two eyes—are still too afraid to shout foul but instead give the all the up and coming gymnasts the impression that all those years of hard work, pain and sacrifice AND a superior performance don’t count for anything… Ask yourself this:
If Jordyn Wieber were black or if Douglas was white would we even be having this discussion… probably not. PS-I’d like someone to explain to me where the extra .233 points for Douglas came from for a performance that was clearly not as well done as the performance by the world champion.
PPS:I would also like to know that if, against all odds, Joudyn Wieber had gotten the gold if the Wheaties, et al, contracts would still be in the $300 million range. -

CK828 9 months agoi truly love all the people telling jordyn wieber to stop whining because she didn’t perform better than 3 other people in a competition of 60 for 24 spots. A) was this editorial WRITTEN by jordyn? no, it was written by matt stopera. B) have you seen any interviews in which jordyn says her teammates are undeserving? no, actually her own teammates have said that they feel sorry for her and aly raisman has expressed shock for taking her spot. C) aside from jordyn wieber there are many other athletes from around the world that this too applies to. if you had any sort of critical thinking skills you would have been able to recognize the bigger picture than just the jordyn weiber upset.

sarahs61 9 months agoI understand the principle behind the rule but in a competition that is to me supposed to reward the best of the best it’s hard to see someone that is technically 4th be booted out because she’s from a certain country. Frankly, I’m mad about the other players that aren’t in either. I think it should be the top regardless of country

Foty 9 months agoTwo years ago, the Seattle Seahawks made the playoffs at 7-9 while two 10-6 teams failed. In 2008 the 11-5 New England Patriots failed to make the playoffs while the 8-8 Chargers did. In the NBA, there’s usually one or two teams in the West that don’t make the playoffs while worse teams in the East do. Is it fair she didn’t advance? Probably not. Is it an anomaly in sports, screwing the best atheletes? No. It happens more often then you think.
To advance she had to be the best. She wasn’t in this event. -

kingmonkey 9 months agoI understand this may seem incomprehensible, even reprehensible, to some, but you must all understand that the ultimate goal of these rules is to ensure that only the best-looking athletes move on to the final rounds. I mean, can you imagine if we let the uglies play? Pandemonium, I tell you!

dandilioness 9 months agoIf she didn’t like the rule, then she should have stayed home. She knew the rule going in, chose to play and then complained about it. You knew the rule going in, Ma’am and chose to participate anyway. Now stop whining and let Aly Raisman enjoy her spot… The spot she earned.

Moshi_Moshi 9 months agoShe messed up a lot during her routines though. If people are gonna make a big deal out of this then she should have just performed better tbh. No one even thought Aly Raisman was gonna make it but cause Jordyn messed up so much it happened. Oh well.
