Moshi_Moshi 3 months agoLOL at Illinois. Also needs this addition: Frequently those who grew up in the suburbs of Chicago often reference themselves as being from Chicago. Although this works on those from out of state (see example), for those from Chicago will be quick to point out that you are in fact from Elk Grove Village or any other outlying suburb.

nikkib9 3 months agoIs that definition of California form 2003? um no, how about the oldest trees in the world, the golden gate, the craziest politics, a state divided between north and south in their own types of culture, the 9th largest economy in the world, a harbor of popular culture and influence on the world in technology-oh, that’s the real California. Apparently those who need to look it up in the urban dictionary are not from here, so that’s worth mentioning- most people move here and aren’t from CA, but those of us who are generations in are proud.

andrewb55 3 months agoThe Minnesota one is fairly accurate except they forgot to mention that prairie turns into beautiful forest up north! Second we are in no way moving politically to the right, we have the longest streak of voting democratic for presidential candidates, and are in no way a “swing state”. Also they forgot about our accents.

One of the first questions you’ll be asked socially is, “who do you work for?”.
If you’re from Northern Virginia, you tell people you’re from D.C. (but be sure to make the distinction that you’re not from Maryland).
If you’re from Southern Maryland, you likely tell people you’re from D.C. (but be sure to make the distinction that you’re not from Virginia).
If you don’t have to take a bus between Metro rail stops, you’ve had a good day.

First post on urban dictionary for MD: The state with the biggest identity crisis in America. Parts of it like DC and Baltimore are extremely ghetto, with two of the top 5 murder rates in the country. Balto is the heroine capital of the world. Suburbs like Potomac are Bethesda are among the richest and most well educated in the country, and populated by lawyers and doctors with preppy rich children who drive Benz’s. To the far west, you have the type of hicks that live in West Virginia up in the Appalachian mountains. To the south and the east you have the kind of hicks you might find in Mississippi. In Ocean City you have retired people who decided to go live on the beach. Around the bay area, you have a lot of fisherman. Maryland may be mixed up, but the crabs are damn good.
