1. The Proclaimers

Now, you might think of Ted and Marshall’s epic road trips on How I Met Your Mother. Or Perhaps you think of the last scene in Benny and Joon, whatever you think of i’d wager that all of you know the words to ‘I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles).’ Identical twin brothers Charlie and Craig Reid make up the epic duo, The Proclaimers. Born in Leith, Edinburgh, the twins always performed together. First in several punk rock bands while they were at school before forming The Proclaimers in 1983. Known for their distinctive singing style thats infused with their Scottish accents, this celtic pop-rock duo has had many hits in the UK, with ‘I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)’ reached number one on the UK Singles Charts, although that track was their only hit in the US. In 2007, a stage musical featuring all of their songs was created for the Dundee Rep Company called Sunshine on Leith. It was adapted into a feature film musical in 2013!

Fun Fact: ‘I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)’ was adopted as a theme song by the Hibernian Football Club in Scotland.

2. The Bee Gee's

Those three part harmonies! That falsetto! Those jumpsuits! That hair! There’s no question that these three were arguably the kings of the disco movement in the late 60’s and 70’s. The Bee Gee’s are made up of twins Robin and Maurice Gibb (far left and far right) and older brother Barry. The fraternal twins were born in Douglas, Isle of Man on December 22, 1949. In 1958, the trio formed the Bee Gee’s. In their musical career the band released such single’s as “Night Fever,” “Stayin Alive,” “How Deep Is Your Love,” and “If I Can’t Have You.” They sold more than 220 million records worldwide making them one of the worlds best selling musical artists of all time! When Maurice passed away in 2003, Brian and Robin retired the groups name after 45 years of performing.

Fun Fact: The Bee Gee’s are the only artists in HISTORY to achieve number one on the UK charts in four consecutive decades (60’s, 70’s 80’s and 90’s) and are the first and only songwriters to have five songs in the top ten at the same time.

3. Wovoka Gentle

People have always been fascinated by twins. Do they act the same? Think the same? Do they really have twin telepathy (I like to think so)? It’s clear that Wovoka Gentle's Imogen and Ellie Mason are individuals each with their own sound and style, however their intrinsic emotional and spiritual connection brings a unique and almost ethereal quality to their harmonies. Add in third member William Stokes, who brings his own creativity and musicality to the group, and they just seem to melt into each other to create a magical sound. Born on November 12, 1990, the two girls from London had previously performed with other bands, as did William Stokes before combining forces and signing with indie label Yucatan Records earlier this year. Their debut EP is set to drop July 13th. Are twin bands better? I can’t say for all, but this twin band is one to watch.

Fun Fact: The band got their name from ‘Wovoka’ also known as Jack Wilson who was the spiritual leader of the Norther Paiute tribe, who founded the ‘Ghost Dance’ movement. Wovoka also means ‘wood cutter.’

4. Tegan and Sara

Tegan and Sara Quin are probably two of the coolest musical twins out there, and it goes without saying they are crazy talented. Both girls sing, play guitar and keyboards and write their own material. Since they started playing when they were fifteen, they have released seven studio albums, four of which are gold certified. They have toured with everyone you can imagine from Neil Young to the Killers and have opened for Katy Perry and Lady Gaga, nuff said. Recently the girls track ‘Everything is Awesome’ that the duo penned for the Lego Movie was nominated for Best Original Song at the 87th Academy Awards.

Fun Fact: the girls partnered with ‘Coolhaus,’ an ice cream sandwich truck based in LA to create a new ice cream sandwich to support marriage equality. The ‘Till Death Do Us Part’ sandwich features double chocolate cookies and salted caramel ice cream....yum!

5. James and Ben Johnson of Biffy Clyro

Although individually they might not be household names, Ben and James Johnston make up two thirds of the wildly popular Biffy Clyro. The talented ginger haired duo were born in Kilmarnock, East Aryshire, Scotland on April 25th 1980. Ben (center) plays drums and does backup vocals for the band while James (right) plays bass and vocals. A festival favourite, Biffy Clyro has released six studio albums, three of which (Puzzles, Only Revolutions and Opposites) reached the top five in the UK albums chart with their latest one, Opposites, finally garnering them their first UK number one album! Aside from music, James is a fan of cycling and has often been spotted cycling around the hills of Aryshire. Ben is a diehard Kilmarnock FC fan, and was once in a Rage Against the Machine cover band called ‘Raj Against the Shereen.’

Fun Fact: The band has never disclosed how they came up with the name Biffy Clyro, and have openly said they make up different stories all the time because they are bored with the question. One story is that one of the members had a pen that belonged to Cliff Richards i.e ‘Cliffy Byro,’ another is that they named themselves after a Scottish footballer who played for Ayr United.

6. The National

The National may be widely known because of Matt Berninger’s trademark voice. However, the twin Dessner brothers are largely responsible for the composition and writing of the bands music. Aaron and Bryce Dessner were both in Cincinnati, Ohio on April 23, 1976. Together the brothers both write and play guitar for The National, although thats not where their collaboration stops. In 2008, they performed a concert as part of the Soundres, a residency program for contemporary music in Salento, Italy and at the Guitar Au Palais Festival in Perpignan, France. They also worked together on The Long Count, which is a large commission for the BAM Next Wave Festival. The Dessner twins bring a new meaning to the term twin-power! They are thirteen years in to their working relationship and still going strong!

Fun Fact: Game of Thrones Fans! The National performed an original recording of the song The Rains of Castamere on the Game of Thrones soundtrack and it appeared over the closing credits in the season two, in the ninth episode, “Blackwater.”

7. Benji and Joel Madden of Good Charlotte

If you were a teenager going through your ‘I wanna be a punk, but not really’ phase in the early 00’s, chances are you had a Good Charlotte CD in your walkman (remember walkmans?!) and Benji and Joel Madden were the tattooed twin poster boys that everyone loved. Since their conception they have released five studio albums and two compilation albums, sold millions of copies worldwide, won countless awards and sold out world tours. Joel is married to the super stylish Nicole Richie and has two kids, Harlow and Sparrow, and Benji married Cameron Diaz in January

8. Jedward

We couldn’t make a list of famous musical twins without including Jedward! Dublin born Josh and Edward Grimes (see how they got their name?!) appeared on the sixth season of The X Factor UK in 2009. They were so popular during the series that they created a phenomenon frenzy that the media described as “the Jedward paradox.” They have since released three studio albums, Planet Jedward, Victory, and Young Love, the first two going double platinum in their native Ireland. Although still singing, the personalities have gone on to host their own children’s television shows Jedward’s Big Adventure and OMG! Jedward’s Dream Factory. The twins also appeared on Celebrity Big Brother House 8, in which they got to the final, finishing third. They also claim their hair only takes ‘five seconds’ to do....yeah right.

Fun Fact: They represented Ireland in the Eurovision song contest twice. Once in 2011 with their song ‘Lipstick,’ which went #1 in Ireland, and again in 2012 with the song ‘Waterline.’

9. Cayucas

Cayucas are the dreamy, California beach band that we have all been waiting for. The band is lead by lead vocalist Zac Yudin and his twin brother Ben. Its clear that the brothers vibe off each other so well and create such a cool sound, filled with syncopated beats, and melodies that you wont be able to get out of your head. Born in Davis, California, they’re roots are clear in their music. Signed to Secretly Canadian in 2012, the boys have only released one studio album, Bigfoot, in 2013 and are preparing to launch their sophomore album, Dancing at the Blue Lagoon, in June 2015. Music aside, their social media game is on point. Cayucas instagram page is a vibe-y mix of dreamy locations, polaroids, gigs and life on the road. Their new single ‘Mooney Eyed Walrus’ is definitely worth a listen.

Fun Fact: Their video for their debut single, ‘Cayucos,’ directed by Nolan Wilson Goff, is a little bit Wes Anderson, a little bit 70’s vintage California and a little bit cheeky.

10. The Veronicas

Life just doesn’t seem fair when you see a super hot, talented, stylish singer....but when there’s two of them!? Well just count everyone else out now! Life must be good for these two sultry songstress sisters from Brisbane, Australia. Lisa and Jessica Origliasso formed The Veronicas in 2005. They’ve gone through phases of being a little more Avril Lavigne, a little pop punk and now that they’re all grown up are straight up hot pop stars. Although they have had countless number one singles and platinum records (Their debut album The Secret Life Of... went 4x platinum in Australia) their sone ‘4Ever’ hit an all time high when it was featured in the beloved Channing Tatum/Amanda Bynes film She's the Man."

Fun Fact: They’re called The Veronicas after Winona Ryders character in Heathers. They were inspired from the scene where Christian Slater asks Winona Ryder, “are you a Heather?” and she replies, “No, I’m a Veronica.” LOVE!
