12 Things Only 90's Kids Could Ever Possibly Remember

The 1990's was undisputedly the greatest decade for kids. Pre-terrorism and post hair metal, '90s kids were right smack dab in the middle of greatness. If you're an old fogey, you may not recognize some of the things on this list. Same goes for you new fogeys! Here's a list of some of the dopest shiznits from the '90s!

1. Scissors

Remember these slicey cut-um'-ups? Sometimes you needed to tear up some paper in a precise '90s way but using your hands could lead to DISASTER! Put your thumb in the little hole or jam all your other fingers into it. It didn't matter! This lil' guy had your back every time.

2. Cleats

A spiky shoe for a spiky time. If you had a pair of cleats you were the envy of your friends. They could grip the ground which gave you radical traction for running and playing '90s soccer. Real good for "accidentally" kicking Derek's shins.

3. Moms And Dads

Remember how hard getting to school was in the '90s? You had to get dressed, eat, get more ready with other things and then you actually had to GET there? That's too hard. Looks like truancy officer is gonna cuff me up and tote me off to jail.

Or is he? Nope! All thanks to moms and dads!

4. Manila Folders

Filing papers were as easy as '90s morning with these things! The kids who lost their collection of manila folders remember these as being exceptionally tough to use. I'm here to tell you I still have mine and they most definitely weren't!

Don't believe me? Go on eBay right now and order yourself a few. Let the nostalgia wash over you like shower water.

5. Table Knives

Sometimes affectionally called "butter knives", these sharp metal flatties filled your cutlery drawers to the brim! They had so many uses like cutting bagels, opening boxes and helping you to pretend to be "Knifingers The Pirate"! Be careful though, they're heavier than you remember.

6. Drawers

I couldn't find a good picture of real drawers so this will have to do. The '90s were a time of fun but also of junk. You didn't want to look like a spaz when your friends came over to play games so you did the only thing you knew to do. You put things away in drawers. All your stuff was out of sight and Derek wasn't the wiser.

Surprised to see this on the list because you thought you were the only one who did this? Guess again. This was a pretty common practice.

7. Eels

Remember these slimy creatures from the deep? What were they all about anyway? As gnarly as it was, sometimes the '90s were a real fustercluck.

8. Shower Water

Coming home after a long day of being in the '90s would leave you in a grimy film that was next to impossible to get off. No matter how many napkins (remember THOSE?!) you rubbed across your body, the only thing that could really get you clean was that good ol' H20.

Popping in the shower and rinsing the day off with the good stuff was one of the few pleasures that made being a kid worthwhile. You could make the shower water hot, cold, lukewarm, freezing, boiling, really hot, not too cold, very warm-hot, icy cold, ouchie-zowies, Derek's heart, mega-burny, tepid, or even temperate! Having that sort of control as a kid made you feel powerful. Kid power!

9. Police Officers

Getting serious here for a second. The '90s weren't always the safest time. While we may have been blind to it, thanks to our uninterrupted fascination with manila folders and drawers, people were constantly looting and fighting all around us. Fortunately, these guys were there to protect us and keep our childlike innocence intact.

Where did they go? I feel like now more than ever we could use their help.

10. Rope

Not every kid had this stuff but every kid definitely remembers it! It was sold almost everywhere. There wasn't a garage you could go into without seeing a bit of this coiled in the corner like a dead eel.

Great for playing "Tug-Of-War" or "Balance My Hat". Also great for playing "Helper's Bones" or "Red Yellow Blue Times 2".

Don't get it near scissors though!

11. Yarn

Not to be confused with rope, yarn was soft, thin and came in a variety of colors.

If you wanted to be cool, you'd take the laces off your cleats and replace it with blue and green yarn. While that fad kind of died out in '97, most kids held onto their "yarned cleats". I'd bet you still have yours. Go check in the back of your closet for your old cleats. I'll wait.

Great for playing "Cat Damages" and "Who's The Magician?" Also, great for playing "Back To The End Of The Frontfacing Side" and "Parker Posey".

12. Bread On A Countertop

Last but most certainly not least. Bread on a countertop was what made being a '90s kid the most best. If you were hungry, bread on a countertop was the perfect snack. If you weren't hungry, bread on a countertop would be there until you were hungry.

Derek was allergic to bread.

It eventually did go bad as it was food but it was easily replaced. Affordable even on your measly allowance money. Sorry not sorry for making you crave it!
