Frinds was more directed towards women. HIMYM is more directed towards men. Both are great series.

The Meta level of HIMYM, blows everything else out of the water.  also: Pamela Fryman.

I liked both shows, and think they are both very funny… but HIMYM is MUCH smarter comedy that is oriented more towards guys, while Friends was simpler comedy that was more oriented towards women. Personally, I like HIMYM better, but mostly because of NPH and Jason Segal.

Except HIMYM figured it didn't need a Phoebe.  That would be an interesting twist to the neverending question: Lisa Kudrow is the Mother!

I'm a Joey fan. It was brilliant of Matt Leblanc to combine the fifties icons Jerry Lewis and Dean Martin into one Voltron of Comedy Genius. I'm seriously a fan.  I especially love the little peeks into his life as a child, as when he told everyone about the way his mother used to drop him off at the movies with a jar of jam and a spoon. The best friends were Joey and Phoebe, and that is fact.

They show the cast of HIMYM at work regularly. More so if not equal to the amount of time you see them in the bar.

For all you himym fans glass just shattered!

Other similarities:
-Chandler and Ted both discover that their loud, obnoxious exes are now dating deaf men.
-Ross and Ted both start dating their students even though it's “forbidden” and they try not to get caught.
-No one knows what Chandler or Barney's job is and they both make a ton of money and wear suits all the time.
-Marshall and Lily/Chandler and Monica almost get married in Atlantic City.
-Rachel and Robin both have really strict, rich, hard to please dads.
-High school/college flashbacks

They both suck. Check.
