The Internet Wiretapping Arms Race

    The FBI wants it to be systematically easy to wiretap any internet communication service — Skype, Facebook, whatever — and is asking tech companies to go along with the Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act. Slate's Future Tense raises an interesting point though: It may just set off a kind of arms race — more surveillance may lead more people to turn to more private services, more encryption, further off the main grid.
