The 129,000 Percent Amazon Kindle Markup

Andrew Hyde put his book, This Book Is About Travel up for sale on Amazon, iBooks, Nook and as a PDF, for $10. The lowest take home of the bunch? Kindle, which initially gave Hyde just $5.10 of every $10, thanks to an average "delivery cost" of $2.58 (on top of Amazon's 30 percent cut). After re-optimizing the file, he now takes home $6.42 per book, but his experience is still a startling look at the reality of self-publishing.
