Fewer Is The New More

What used to be a somewhat radical idea amongst consumer electronics makers — make a few things, make them well — has become the new canon. Like Sony and HTC, Google's new Motorola strategy, on top of slashing 4,000 jobs, is to "cut the number of devices Motorola makes from the 27 it introduced last year to just a few." Which will apparently be cool because they'll have "things like sensors that recognize who is in a room based on their voices, cameras that take crisper photos and batteries that last for days." How radical.
