Response to Olympic Head Shares Diversity Message, But Asks Leaders To Keep Politics Out Of The Games:
If black people were being beaten and arrested for speaking out about atrocities towards their people as a minority in a country TODAY, the olympics would not be held there. If they were, we wouldn’t be saying their abuse is simply “political”. No, this abuse towards queers in Russia is not simply political, it is a social battle, an academic battle, a legal battle, an ethical battle and a political battle. You can’t just choose which venue to have politics (and the other arenas I mentioned above) in, and the fight doesn’t simply pause while the Olympics are in town. These people are dying and being arrested for their sexual orientation during the games so why should the world majority be SILENT now?
