7 Films To Help Transition From Noirvember To Christmas Movie Season

Noirvember is almost over, and Christmas movie season is around the bend. Here are seven picks to help make the transition just a little easier. Confession: two of these movies, I actually haven't seen myself!

L.A. Confidential (1997)

Although it's as hard-boiled a neo-noir as they come, it does open on Christmas Eve.

Christmas Holiday (1944)

Despite it's name, this is a dark, moody film noir with a chilling non-dance performance from Gene Kelly.

Lady in the Lake (1947)

This adaptation of the Raymond Chandler book of the name (directed by star Robert Montgomery!), all takes place during Christmas. It's also shot in the first person to match Chandler's writing style, so it may make you a bit queezy at first.

Mr. Soft Touch (1949)

I haven't actually seen this movie, but Glenn Ford (man's man) goes on the run from the mob and dresses up as Santa Claus. I really have no excuse for not having seen it!

Christmas Eve (1947)

Another one I haven't seen, but George Raft is holding a gun and smoking a cigarette on the poster, so it's got be good.

Holiday Affair (1944)

Robert Mitchum in a romantic comedy? Baby, I DO care!

It's a Wonderful Life (1946)

The first half of this movie is told in an extended flashback, the second half is about a man who thinks he's lost everything and decides to kill himself. Now that's the stuff that noir is made of.
