    Enjoy Your Gadget's Battery Longer

Follow these tips to keep your gadget's battery life longer.

One of the more challenging things of being a gadget owner is getting the most out of your battery. The thing about batteries is that they are usually one of the most vulnerable parts of any gadget. They are prone to getting damaged easily compared to other parts of the gadget and they have a tendency to affect other parts if they're damaged. If a battery gets bloated because of overheating or overcharging, it may leak and wreak havoc to the rest of the gadget.

Thus, you need to be careful with charging gadgets to your 4-port USB 3.0 docking station. Also, there's that common advice among service center employees that if your gadget is not functioning anymore because of the battery, it's better to just buy a new gadget than to replace just the battery. After all, a replacement battery can at times be more expensive than the entire gadget!

So, what should you do keep your battery “healthy”? Here are a few tips:

“Drain” your battery at least once a month.

Draining your battery or fully discharging it should not happen every time, and should just be done once or at most, twice every month. Contrary to common knowledge, charging your gadget only after it dies because the battery is fully drained is not advisable. This is because most batteries that power the current crop of gadgets are "smart," telling owners how long they have until they die out (for example, 3 hours, 30 minutes remaining).

When you have done a shallow discharge, the feature gets miscalibrated. Thus, manufacturers recommend full discharges and connecting your gadgets to your USB 3.0 docking station for charging only once a month, for the feature to stay accurate.

Keep your gadget away from the heat

A lot of people tend to take this advice for granted. We have forgotten that just twenty years ago, computers can only be used in air-conditioned rooms and laptop computers need to be placed in coolers or have a functioning cooling fan. With gadgets these days being so tiny, there is actually a small space for cooling devices to be placed in them. But then, this definitely does not mean that you can just leave your gadget anywhere, especially in hot surfaces. Excess heat is not good to both the processor of your gadget and the battery.

Hot batteries degrade in quality faster than ones that stay cool. Thus, a stand or something that elevates or separates your gadget's back surface from other hot surfaces is recommended.
