10 Things College Dining Hall Food Taught Me About Life

College really is a learning experience.

    1. Covering up old mistakes does not make them go away

I'm looking at you diced breaded chicken, we all know you were last weeks chicken patties

2.Sometimes it's good to judge a book by its cover

If you don't know what it is by looking at it, you probably shouldn't put it on your tray

3.If you want it done right, you have to do it yourself

The best meals I ate in college were made at the salad bar and in my dorm room microwave

    4.Every rose has its thorn

Dear French fries: thank you for getting me through freshman year even if you were responsible for my freshman 15.

5.Looking good on the outside doesn't always reflect what's on the inside

Like the uncooked pizza dough hidden by the thick layers of cheese and sauce

6.When life hands you lemons, make lemonade

And if it hands you limes, steal a few for tequilla shots

    7.Always read the fine print

If the nutrition label for the scrambled eggs says "contains eggs", take this as a red flag

8.Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass, it's about learning to dance in the rain.

Make do with what you have…there are many different ways to eat ramen

9.One of the hardest lessons in life to learn is figuring out which bridges to cross and which to burn.

Cereal is a safe choice. Always stay away from the fried catfish strips, always.

10.But most importantly, if at first you don't succeed, try try again

You won't always make the right choice your first time. But don't let the mystery meat get you down, there's always something else to try.

BONUS: Eat out as much as possible
