There’s no denying it…times are changing, and they’re changing fast. It seems like, culturally, our society is moving so fast and no one knows how to keep up. Looking at where the world was ten years ago to where we are now and you’ll find that the differences are mind-boggling, with new laws, views, and events taking place that shape the course of humanity. Now imagine how different society was almost 100 years ago in the 1920s. We live in a completely different world today than what it was a century ago, and the controversy surrounding Ernest Hemingway’s The Sun Also Rises is a prime example of how differently we see the elements in the book today, as opposed to its release in 1926. When looking at the culture and political atmosphere around the time of its publication, it is no surprise that The Sun Also Rises drew backlash, but did its controversial elements really pose enough of a threat to society to get it banned, or was it just the conflicting ideals of the few that overpowered their obligation to uphold Constitutional rights?
