10 Reasons Being An English Lit Graduate Sucks

So you've got the degree, your referencing is perfect, but let's face it - here's 10 reasons your English Literature degree sucks.

1. Everyone assumes you know everything about grammar and spelling. You do, but you try not to brag.

I got three words for you: 'there', 'their' and 'they're'.

2. People keep asking you what your future career plans are.

Let's face it, it's not like there's defined career paths that don't involve 'becoming a starving writer' at some stage.

3. When you're reading a book, and you get a bit too excited by the characters' emotional depth.

It's okay, I cried multiple times during the Harry Potter series too.

4. You just happen to be able to quote Shakespeare casually, and you freak out your friends.

5. You overreact when people interrupt you during an exciting part. In Shakespeare.

But come ON! If you were watching a movie, they'd shut up!

6. There's always the pressure to become a teacher.

Even if you do want to become a teacher, what's with the assumptions?!

7. You have to introduce your new friends to the pleasure of reading.

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't but when it does it's brilliant.

8. You're either a reader or a writer, and can't decide which right now.

You've just done three years of writing essays, *surely* you could get a job as a copy writer?

9. Poetry STILL doesn't make any sense.

... (and you can't decide if that's a good thing or not)

10. But hey, you still did it and you can still ruin movie plots for the next twenty years!

(Not to mention the extra cash you'll be earning when you do get that graduate job!)
